Services Overview
The school-to-prison pipeline is one of the most consequential — and most preventable — drivers of youth system involvement in the country. Exclusionary discipline policies, the over-criminalization of adolescent behavior, and the absence of culturally responsive learning environments have created a direct line from the classroom to the courtroom for far too many young people — disproportionately Black and Brown youth. DJCG works directly with schools, districts, and community organizations to interrupt this cycle before it accelerates.
The Problem
Zero-tolerance discipline policies do not improve school safety. They accelerate system involvement. Every out-of-school suspension doubles a student's likelihood of contact with the juvenile justice system within that same year. The pipeline is a measurable, outcome of policy choices that can be changed.
Our Approach
DJCG brings a structured, equity-centered approach to disrupting the pipeline — replacing punitive frameworks with restorative, trauma-informed, and culturally responsive alternatives that keep youth in classrooms and connected to their education and community.
